Crystal maker Baccarat to launch first luxury hotel in NY
It would be Baccarat’s 250th anniversary, and with a legacy as long as of Baccarat Hotel, celebrations are bound to be big. As reported the Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York will open in 2014, in line with its 25th anniversary, just off the Fifth Avenue.
This partnership between Starwood Capital and Tribeca Associates (real estate development and acquisitions firm) would be a $403 million development. As reported, the hotel would have 115 hotel rooms with some rooms with a price tag exceeding $800 a night apart from this there would be 64 residences that the real estate investors hopes to be amongst the most expensive yet sought after place.
Starwood had acquired the Baccarat Crystal, the French manufacturer of fine glassware and the yet to be build hotel would have Baccarat chandeliers, a boutique store selling crystal with price tags up to $10,000. However, we think that the major attraction would be the crystal museum pieces that would be rotating through the lobby.

Enjoy the traditional Japanese dance performance by authentic Maiko and Geiko (Geisha) in Ochaya then the enjoy the conversation with them who will lecture you about A to Z of history of Maiko and Geisha.
A Maiko is a woman who works to entertain guests by dancing, playing music, serving sake, or having conversations with them. While there are a lot of people engaged in traditional jobs in Japan, maiko is one of the most famous and traditional. They usually wear a Japanese traditional kimono. They also perform traditional dances and speak traditional Kyoto dialect. Maiko are apprentice geiko and practice hard to become professional entertainers.
Geiko has the same meaning as geisha (professional entertainer), but it is the local term in Kyoto dialect. Geiko perform, at a high level, various Japanese arts, such as playing classical music on the shamisen (a three-stringed instrument), reciting poetry, and performing odori (dances). They are highly skilled at entertaining guests. Both maiko and Geiko convey to us Japanese traditions.
The term “Ochaya”, is often translated into English as “tea house”. However an establishment of Ochaya is not a place for drinking tea. This is an ultra exclusive, invitation only, a place of entertainment where if you need to know the price, you definitely won’t be able to afford it. A single night of geisha entertainment with Geiko and Maiko in attendance will cost anything from 500-800,000 yen upwards. You cannot enter Ochaya. To visit requires a relationship (something that may take generations), and a lot of money.
A lot of money alone will not suffice. Most of the customers are male, in many cases their connection between them and the Ochaya is through their company, however female customers are not unusual and have been for more than 100 years.
